Build the confidence to
make English a part of you.

The first step to improving is recognizing where your shortcomings are. Our flagship "NYLA Stage" program will help you visualize your English ability so you can easily see what you've already mastered and where to focus your attention next. It's this gradual buildup of effort that will lead to confidence in English.

NYLA

NYLA: New York Language Academy

New York — a city where people and cultures from all over the world mix together, each with their own backgrounds and values.

What you'll find there isn't a singular "correct" English, but a way to see English as a tool for understanding others and voicing your own thoughts and ideas. The name NYLA embodies our respect for New York's culture of communication.

And it is present as well in our NYLA "New York Language Academy" philosophy: the goal is not simply to learn English, but to use it to share your unique voice.

Mika Kuramoto · NYLA "New York Language Academy" Director

I started my new life in New York over 20 years ago. While working and raising a family in the States, I continued to hold onto a question I had about English in my heart: why was it that, despite imperfect grammar or pronunciation, so many immigrants there were able to express themselves so well through English? Why couldn't Japanese people with years of English study under their belts have that same confidence? The answer we came to was that there a wall had built up in between the "English you know" and the "English you use."

Our NYLA English program was born in order to help people climb and overcome this wall. Through our flagship evaluation program, "NYLA Stage," you will observe your objective location along the wall, and your next step to reach the top will become clear. Furthermore, the gradual buildup of opportunities to test your English will transform the "English you know" into the "English you use."

Let's build the confidence to make English a part of you — together.
